True Love ~ SOUS

Hello, everybody! I'm back again today with a new DT submission for Stuck on U Sketches. This time we have another great sketch by Liz Qualman which I will post below.

LOVE how my page turned out!! Either that or I'm so enchanted with this engagement photo of Jake and Olivia that it didn't matter LOL!!  They've got some really great photos, so you'll be seeing quite a few more, I imagine.

Once again,, I'm using my Basic Grey Capella papers ... actually this page was done before yesterdays was. But I went all out on this one with sewing and distressing. Jake and Olivia are building their marriage on a firm foundation with faith in God ... and I felt that getting out that old sewing machine of mine and stitching my papers together was very fitting! (You may have to click on the photo to get a larger view to see it as my thread was off white and kind of blends in with the paper.)  The distressssing is of course, my style, but also symbolizes some old-fashioned values. Got deep on this one, didn't I?

I cut 2 banners using April Showers cartridge but decided that one banner looked better, otherwise I stayed pretty true to the sketch. I added some trim and pearls to give it a finished look. My flowers were handmade again this time using the Mother's Day Bouquet cart. My title and shadow are from Tie the Knot.

Here's a close-up of 2 of the flowers. I did add a small Prima rose in ivory to the center of my flower and added some Petaloo leaves.

Just a close-up of the title but you can see some of the sewing in this photo.

I did alter the shape of my banner somewhat using my Gypsy and unlinking the heighth, width function then adding to the heighth only.

Then a yummy Prima say it in pearls swirl in brown ..  and it's done!

If you haven't been by Stuck on U Sketches and see what our designers have done. We have a special guest today, the uber-talented Shona Keehn who will be joining our team!  We are super excited to have her aboard! Hope you can play along this time!

Thanks for coming by and for always leaving such sweet comments. I have some catching up to do on making it to your blogs but I'm trying.  A few more family functions this week and next ...and then things will level off a bit .. sort of! LOL Have a great weekend!

June sketch layout for Practical Scrappers, Pia

Thanks for coming by today while I share another project done with one of the June sketches for Practical Scrappers.  It is so much fun being a part of this great group of paper artists!

This page was really a pleasure to do! The bride is my grandson Jake's wife, Olivia.  I snagged these bridal photos off Facebook the day after the wedding! At the rate I'm going, I will have done more of Olivia than of my dgd Maddie who was married in March. They both were beautiful brides, so there are lots of pages in my future! (Love that top photo with the wild grass dangling from her lips. So typical of her fun, straightforward nature.)

For my page I used some of my fave Basic Grey Capella which I stocked up on last Spring. I knew that its natural colors were a must-have for me! The punchwork was done with my Martha Stewart deep-edged Floral Vine punch. And my flowers were made with my PC Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge. I layered them and then added some puff paint. Love how they turned out! Sorry about my crooked photo .. got in too big a hurry!

Hope to see you back tomorrow for the next Stuck on U Sketches reveal!

I'm Ba-ack!

Thought I would do a quick post and let you know that I am back from a quick vacay to Santa Fe.  We had a fabulous time .. but it is always nice to be back home. Hopefully, I will be able to catch up on your blog posts in the next few days!

While you are here, I thought I'd share a layout that I did with one of our June sketches at Practical Scrappers. This layout was based on Jannike's (rosejen's) sketch, although I did flip it horizontally due to the orientation of my photo.

Here is the sketch which shows 3 photos. In place of those I just used one photo of my Dad. This is his highschool Senior photo, taken in 1940.  I found it last year after my Mom passed away. It was still in its cardboard frame.  A real treasure for sure!

I used some things from my June Swirlydoos kit, including the yummy Bo Bunny Timepiece collection with a mix of things from my stash. Because my maiden name was Key, I like to use lots of keys on my heritage pieces when I can.  The stopwatches were fussy cut from the papers, then I added my floral, bling and some Tattered Angels overlays that are so cool!

I had planned to post this Thursday with our sketch feature at Practical Scrappers but thought that in honor of Father's Day yesterday. I would post it today.

You will also note Pia's sketch on my left-hand sidebar ... and hopefully you can join in before the 23rd. Just email your layouts to practicalscrapperslayouts@gmail.com for a chance to be featured! Can't wait to show you how I used Pia's!

Have a wonderful, productive week!

Thankful to be Me ~ SOUS ~ June 10, 2011

Hello and Happy Friday, everyone! June 10th? How did that happen? Before you know it, it will be mid-June!

Anyway, this week we have another fabulous sketch by Beggahuna with lots of eye-catching negative space. Although I am the one who chose the sketch this time, when it came time to do my layout, I wasn't sure what photos I wanted to use that would work.  I decided I wanted to scrapbook about my birthday this year .. which was fabulous .. but I didn't really have many photos of that day! So, I improvised and figured this would just be a trial run at the sketch ... because the photos were not that great. But in the end, I loved my page!  (I can't seem to get a very focused shot of the page for you but so be it!) I made a companion page that has the same paper but merely has a couple of pockets to hold my birthday cards.

Don't you love the bright Hoopla papers from Glitz Designs? I bought mine from Floren at Generations Crafting knowing they would be great for someone's birthday! I trimmed the papers with the birthday cake so that I could lay the Zebra striped paper behind it and let it peek through. I also used my craft knife to cut around the cake so that I could snug my larger photo closer and replicate the sketch a bit better.

I used my Martha Stewart deep-edged Floral Vine punch on some black cardstock and placed it all the way across the page and beneath the bottom photo. The black flourish is a Fourish with a Bling from Ness Waller. Thank, Ness!

"Thankful" was cut with my Imagine using my Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge. I really need to explore that cart more .. it has some great fun stuff!  I finished out my title with some Making Memories tiny alphas that say "to be me." I have such a great, loving family that I cherish every day!

Lastly, I added some Prima flowers from my stash, as well as some K and Company butterflies. They were the perfect finishing touch! Like I said, meager beginnings but I'm very happy that I captured a few memories from that day!

Now that the end of school has come and gone, I hope that you will have some time to play along and use the sketch this time. And a big thanks to ALL the visitors that we have had for the Blog Hop this week .. a huge success!

Scallop circles ~ Practical Scrappers ~

Yep, another older page but ... one that I dearly love because of the photoof my dd with her baby girl Maddison. Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring scalloped circles! Well, there are SO many ways to use those! The design team and  reader submissions have been plentiful.  You won't want to miss any of them!

I'm sharing this one because it features flowers made with my Creative Memories scalloped circle punch. And I just happen to have done a simple tutorial for them way back when!  HERE is the link for that.

Don't forget that this week is the Summer Blog Hop. Lots of fun prizes being given away! Hop on over to Practical Scrappers and see what I mean!

And can I share some exciting news? One of my layouts got picked up for the November issue of Northridge Publishing's Cricut magazine! Sent it off yesterday!  Hope I dotted all my I's and crossed all my T's. Can't wait!
