A new Quick Quotes Card project!

If you are here for the Scrap That! Blog Hop and Kit Reveal, please scroll down to this POST

Happy Sunday, crafters! Sandi here today to share my newest card creation using the awesome Quick Quotes   Cracklin' Rose collection! I needed to make a quick card for our pastor and I thought this collection would be great for a nice, masculine card.

This is a simple but effective go-to card design that I use a lot. It's a great way to use up some scraps if you have them but the card always looks so "finished." My card base is 5 x 6.5 inches. I've covered the front with Cracklin' Rose 200 and then my strips consist of Cracklin' Rose 100 and Cracklin' Rose 200. The sentiment is stamped on a Die Cut from the new 6x6 card paper pad available on the website 3/20. The inside of my card is covered with more of the  Cracklin' Rose 100. All my edges were inked generously with a combination of Amaretto PowderPuff Chalking Ink and Bloody Mary PowderPuff Chalking Ink.

I've added in a few things from my scrappy leftovers stash: ivory crinkle ribbon, a 4 inch doily, a  lone Prima flower, some leftover Zva bling, twine, a wooden button and a lovely hat pin. I love using up those miscellaneous pieces to create something new! Lastly, I computer-generated my sentiment and adhered that inside but trimmed the edges to let that gorgeous Cracklin' Rose 100 paper show around the edges!

Thanks for coming by today! Have fun creating!

"Cherish"
Main kit only, personal stash

Project #1 is called "Cherish" and features a sweet new photo of one of the dgd's. I loved, loved, loved this peachy-pink paper from Meg's Garden Spring Paisley collection as well as the red and brown striped pattern paper that is peeking from underneath.  Everything featured here is from the Main kit only except for the white crochet doily and the Dusty Attic lacing tash which are from my personal stash. I did a bit of random molding paste along with my Crafter's Workshop "Tile Texture" template. Next I split my paper and added the lacing tash which was treated with white Gesso as well as  a Salmon paint dabber. Then I did some lacing with the seam binding from the kit. My Dusty Attic Butterfly Flourish was treatment in much the same way but then I hit it with my Quick Quotes  Maraschino Cherry PowderPuff Chalking Ink. Wow! What an incredible impact it made. You will notice that I cut my flourish and added it to my flowers cluster.  Lots of hand made flowers here as well as a sweet paper rosette along with a ton of fussy cutting! The little sweetie in the photo is my dgd MA and the  the photo was taken by Kristin Alexander.

"Ready, Set, Go! "
Using Amarylis's awesome sketch, MK, FAO, EAO, personal stash

I really struggled with how to make my pages unique from what the rest of the DT might do, especially since my PAO didn't make it to my house this time around. Amy's sketch has lots of wonderful layering, so I had to get the layers in the best I could. Thank goodness for the card stock that Kaitlyn always puts in the kits! They can be used for so many things but this month I've used them as my base. I did some random punching with a couple of different MS punches and then set to work using my
Crafter's Workshop "Cherry Blossoms" template. It worked perfectly for this sketch and added just the soft background that I wanted. You'll notice lots of fussy cutting once again .. which also led to my paper shortage! I think it was a blessing in disguise because I had to get creative! Some cheesecloth and the filmstrip serve to add more layers. You can just barely make out my title on the right because I hit it with the chalk inks. That adorable photo is of my dgd and taken by Kristin Alexander.

"Olivia"
MK, FAO, EAO, personal stash

This time I've used my Crafter's Workshop "Ledger" template to work a little magic! Really love that one@ I went a little crazy with more fussy cutting and tons of flowers! Love these Meg's Garden papers and sure hope to work with them again soon! I went simple on my chippy frame and covered it in Gesso, then inked the edges and rubbed them with Gold Rub and Buff. My lamp post is Fabscraps and is simply covered with white Gesso and light coat of chalk ink on the edges. Oops, almost forgot my Dusty Attic butterfly. Here I've wet it so that I could separate the wings. Then more Gesso and Quick Quotes PowderPuff chalk ink in Bloody Mary.  I also added red microbeads to the body. Lastly, I finished by tucking in random pieces of cheesecloth which is included in the kit. I've tucked a few wooden gears in amongst my flowers and used a cute Prima wood clip on my photo. Photo ois of my sweet granddaughter-in-law.

MK, FAO, EAO, personal stash
Just a simple card that I squeezed out from my scraps! Cards always come in handy!

That's it for me today! Thanks for coming by!

Now, on to even more exciting news ... Scrap That! is excited to welcome our newest design team member and new Social Media Co-ordinator, Laura Gilhuly.

Here is a little about Laura:

"I am Laura (often know as AngelBear). I live in a small town in south-western Ontario with my family.  I am a stay at home mom to 2 fantastic and energetic little boys - Cody is 12 and Ty 11.  I am happily married for 13 years to my best friend and the most patient & handsome man on earth, Jon. He is so supportive of my hobby and never asks what I spent on supplies!  He drives long haul truck, and is only home on weekends, so I am kept pretty busy with two tweens.

I started scrapping years ago when my sister took me to a Creative Memories beginner class and I although I really enjoyed it I just wasn't a Creative Memories scrapper and soon struck out on my own. I found a few very helpful and friendly sites on the web and have been trying new things and learning ever since. I love to ink, tear, layer and distress my projects!  The dirtier the better.  I like to blog too which you can find at Angel Scraps and you can see some of my work at sb.com. With my husband on the road, and two very active boys to keep me busy, I don't have a lot of time to myself to scrap so I make time! Every night after the kids go to bed.  I take out my supplies and try an do something scrapbooking oriented every day to give me some 'me' time. My family is the focus of my life, my inspiration, and my motivation to scrapbook. "

Welcome to the team, Laura!

~ That's it for today!  See you Friday! ~

It's Reveal Day at SOUS!

Yeah~ It's Friday, my favorite day of the week! The beginning of a new weekend for me .. and it's Reveal day over at Stuck on U Sketches. We have another great sketch from co-leader, Leah Schaeffer.  I will have to admit that I struggled at first with this one and then it was a bit late for me to back up and start over.  I think it felt a bit backwards to me for the photo I was using. I encourage you to flip or rotate a sketch when you run into a similar dilemma.

I've used a photo of one of my dgs and some older papers that I had on hand from both Fabscraps and Kaisercraft's Charlotte's Dream. I adore the Dusty Attic pieces that I've used here for the title (Enjoy the moments ...DA0587) and for the photo mat (Ornate Gate small DA0189). There were sprayed with some Chalkboard Decadence GM and topped with a few flat backed pearls in chocolate.

My flowers are a mix of Prima and Petaloo in more muted tones. I did a bit of punching, inking and layering of ribbons and papers. Plus I've been holding on to those 2 tassels from Pink Paislee and  finally used them here. Lastly, I added some Petaloo's butterflies.

Thanks for coming by today! I hope that you will play along with us at Stuck on U Sketches. You'll have 2 weeks to create and upload your project for a chance to win a Top 3 recognition.

Have a great weekend!

Quick Quotes Valentine's Day Easel Card

Happy Valentine's, everyone! I am back today with a fun Easel card that I made for the Quick Quotes Blog today. I have been dying to get into my Cracklin' Rose papers and thought the colors would be so great for a V-day card for my hubby. Plus a chance to use more of the luscious PowderPuff Chalk Ink. I am seriously in love with them!

As you can see, I've stamped a sentiment on a tan Fleur De Lis Square cut from the co-ordinating card stock, then inked the edges. I've used my Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish Die to cut a couple of flourishes, inked those, then went to town adding small Prima roses from a variety of collections.

I've used a Cracklin' Rose Die Cut ("I Love You") to serve as my brace for helping the card front to stand up. These are elevated a bit with foam squares. Of course, I had to add a couple of butterflies from the darker paper and using my Martha Stewart punches. Then I finished off with a few pearls and a bit of leftover bling.

I'm hoping he likes it  .. and I bet he will! He's a great "scrappy husband" who always appreciates my creations!

That's it for today! Thanks for coming by!

My first Quick Quotes Project!

Happy Monday, everyone! I am so excited to be sharing my first DT project for Quick Quotes! It was so much fun receiving my first DT box and looking through all the fabulous products that I'll be working with.

Assignment #1 was to work with the awesome February Club Q! This one is so perfect for scrapping those special moments in life like weddings, anniversaries or just plain ole Love ... whether it be a layout, card, mini album or even an altered frame. The kit is a wonderful mix of black and white luscious papers and embellies along with a pop of lime green.

I scrapped a fave photo of my granddaughter-in-law.  I created an off-set center panel using a couple of different papers and using my Martha Stewart deep edge Scroll Hearts punch. For interest I used a Prima Firefly Clear Stamp in 2 places between the center panel and the background striped paper. The background paper is lightly distressed and mounted on a sheet of black card stock. In fact, all my paper edges were distressed with my Distrezz-it-all and inked with Midnight Confessions PowderPuff Chalking Ink

Then I got busy making flowers from the die cut flowers in the kit. These were just oodles of fun to put together! My fave is a bit hard to see but is at the very bottom of the cluster. I've used the green die cut as leaves. These were inked with Green Tea PowderPuff Chalking Ink

Next, I just started layering in tons of elements from the kit, papers, die cut circles and their negative, photo mats, laser cut pieces, ribbons tied into bows, rhinestones and more. The title is trimmed shorter to suit my page a bit better and mounted on foam squares after inking the edges with Lemonade PowderPuff Chalking Ink. I lastly fussy cut a butterfly from one of the papers and mounted that on my title block.

Thanks for coming by today.  Be sure and head over to Quick Quotes and check it out!

Build a Page with Sandi C

As seen on the Scrap That! blog today! .......

Hi, there, everyone! Sandi C here today to share some details on how this page came together. I love doing and occasional round layouts as it helps me be more creative. There are many ways now to create a doily-edged circle but I'll be showing you how I did it this time.

First you need to select the papers that you think you might want to use on your project.

Using my Cricut Imagine, I cut a 11.5 inch circle from GBS to use as my base.  While I had the machine turned on, I went ahead a cut a cute photo mat using my A Child's Year cartridge.

I did ultimately decide to use the opposite side of the paper but here it is after cutting.

Next I took a sheet of the numbered paper and starting cutting 1.5 inch strips until I had cut the entire sheet. I think I used most of it but not all.

Then taking a Martha Stewart lace edged punch (but any similar punch would do), I began punching one of the long sides of the 12x1.5 inch strips. When you are finished with that, this is a good time to ink your edges.

Next I took the long strips and snipped them into half inch pieces. Now they are ready for layering and gluing around the circle.

A view from the front as you are working.

And the view from the back at the same point in progress.

So, here we are with the doily edge all completed. Doesn't that look frilly and nice?

My next step was to take the pink ric-rac trim from the kit and glue it all the way around at the edge where the circle and doily edge meet. You don't have to do this step but I thought it was a great way to use that pretty trim.  I also went and ahead and started adding some elements to the page such as the pink note card and the white Zva bloom which I cut in half to layer under my photo.

Here's a close-up of my 3 little canvas hearts which I embossed and then stitched together.  I also misted them a pink tone and frayed the edges a bit.

Now it's time to mount your photo on the photo mat and ink those edges as well.

Because I knew that the white Zva bloom was going under the photo, I used a piece of corrugated cardboard to elevate the whole photo and help it remain sturdy.  Then I ran tape down it and taped it to my page. Faster and sturdier than foam squares!

Then I just started adding in my embellishments. At this point, I kind of stopped taking photos because I was really concentrating on my work. But here's a close-up of one corner. The small blue flower was from my stash.

I thought the little cherub would be cute sitting amongst the hearts, so I added it here!

Remember those awesome wooden hearts? I inked mine a pink color and used it as a photo corner. I also dabbed it as well as some of my flowers and my b/g page with a bit of white Gesso. Then I finished by adding my title and subtitle as well as my butterflies. Butterflies are courtesy of Lisa Gregory.

Once again, here is the completed page:

Thanks for coming by today. Please let me know if you have any questions!

For those of you here for the announcement about the SOUS Blog Hop winner, Babybokchoy, you have 7 days to claim your RAK.  Jing-Jing, email me your mailing addy at clarkson dot sandi at gmail dot com, so that I can get this right out to you! Congrats!

1st Wed card sketch at SOUS

Hello, there! Can you believe how fast this year is going by? Wow! Anyway,  it is first Wednesday Card sketch day over at Stuck on U Sketches. This is a card that I created from scraps (Authentique's Journey) that I had on hand. In January we were having a "use those scraps challenge" so I extended that for myself on into February.  This might not be my all time favorite card ... but at least I have another one on the shelf now to send when the time arises. Awesome sketch, though!

I hope you will join us this time around! Gotta get those V-day cards made sometime, right? You will have 2 weeks to make and then upload your project to SOUS.

Hope the rest of your week is fab! Thanks for coming by!
