Now, I'd love to show you what I've done with this amazing kit!!
First up ....

"BJ, Blooming Beauty"
Main kit, Amarylis' sketch, personal stash

It seems that I always begin with the Main Kit only layout and usually follow Amy's sketch too if I can swing it because they are usually a match made in heaven.  I did substitute a square for the circle though.
These papers screamed vintage to me personally,  so I took the opportunity to scrap some photos of my parents. This photo is of my lovely mom and was one that my dad always carried in his wallet. It is the only copy that I have but using a myriad of photo editing software,  I have restored it fairly well.

I began my project with those fun flowers made largely from the Making Memories Mocha Paperie paper (swoon!!) along with my Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Die and my Donna Salazar Bitty Blossoms Die. I've used the cork paper as my base here for a fun touch. Then punched, stitched, distressed, layered and added a few last things from my own stash: the Blue Fern title, butterflies from the May Scrap That! kit and Zva pearls, a RAK from Lisa Gregory.  You'll see a few more Zva pearl swirls from her below.  Thanks, Lisa!! I am so enjoying them!

The Wild Orchid flowers are tucked here and there .. I used my whole "bunch" on this one page! Lastly, I used the Cork Thickers to add my mom's nickname on the sweet banners added per the sketch.

Next ...

"Let the Good Times Roll"
Mixed media on Glass
MK, EAO, FAO, past ST kits, stash

This Mixed Media on glass project is probably my favorite thing EVER! I seriously just keep staring at it! (Maybe because the photo is of my grown up baby girl, huh?)
I was originally motivated by a piece created by Michelle Wilson "Madame Ro."  Her Asian Inspired Layout on Glass was inspired by Miranda Edney's glass project, so I credit them both! They both do such gorgeous work!

I'll be posting a tutorial on July 2nd on exactly how this piece was created.  But for now let me share that it was created on an 8x10 piece of glass, stamped, embossed with UTEE, misted with Lindy's Stamp Gang mists and then embellished to the max! I just started adding embellies from this kit as well as from previous Scrap That! kits and a few items from my personal stash ... and I couldn't stop! LOL Most of my embellishments were glued in place using Beacon's 3 in1.  I have photographed my piece sitting on a plate rack so that you can get a little better view of all the yummy flowers (mostly Prima Sunrise, Sunset), Pink Paislee butterflies, scrabble tiles, Prima wood pin and such. The UTEE looks so "icey" .. I just love it! Can't wait to share close-ups. So fun to try something different!

Last but not least ...

A Perfect Day ~ SOUS July 21 ~

Yeah, it's Friday and I am so excited! My favorite day of the week!

Not that I can say that I'm kicking back and relaxing ...  the agenda is "extra full" through the middle of July! Between work and family there is tons of extra stuff!! Most of it fun .. well, except for work =); a co-worker is taking a 2 week vacation!  ... but lots to do!! This is just one of those years when we have weddings, showers, babies, graduations and a ton of birthdays mixed in.  I love it all but I just wish I had more time to prepare. I've been under the weather for a few months now and that has put a major dent in the state of my preparedness! Hee-hee! But this weekend I am looking forward to a sweet baby shower ... how fun is that???? Can't wait!

Well, I suppose you came by to see my Stuck on U Sketches project not to hear my rambling! So, I'd best tell you about it! These 2 cute chicks in the photo are my sweet nieces Kimberly and Karen! Are they adorable or what? I snagged this photo off Facebook and I think this was taken at a crafty event they were attending. See? It's in the genes! And if you want to have some scrappy fun, let these two gals tag along! They will seriously liven up the party! They get so tickled they forget what they're laughing about!

Anyway, I had some Prima Romance Novel left over from my February Scrap That! Kit and thought they would look great with my photo! I've been itching to use up one of my Dusty Attic French Flourish Borders (DA0275), so I painted this one black to really give it a pop against my papers. I have also been wanting to use one of my large Manor House and gave it a sprtiz in the center. I clustered it with a black Prima flower-button, some crinkle ribbon and a RN trinket. Some random punching, paper tearing and twine adorned button finish things off.I fussy cut the title and subtitle .. too perfect!  (No mixed media on this one ... didn't have dry time!)

Here are a few close-ups:

I hope that you will stop by SOUS and see what the sketch team has done with this fortnight's sketch designed by yours truly. We'd love for you to play along as well!

Thanks for coming by!

Sandi's Scrap That! June Kit Creations with Details

I am up on the Scrap That! Blog today with more details for my June Kit creations!

Although I didn't want my layouts to be too cliche, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to scrap some photos about a trip to Santa Fe last year (snagged from the Inn on the Alameda Blog to augment my own photos from the trip.  I did a ton of paper layering and distressing on this one! Amy's great sketch is perfect for getting in lots of luscious layers. I painted my largest doily with some black paint to  complement  the darker color in my photo and then split it in half so that I could let it peek out in a couple of places.

You'll see that I hand crafted some one layer flowers that I've named the "Pueblo Rose." They are meant to loosely resemble the Scarlet Globe Mallow. I did a tutorial on them here last week.  I've also added in some bits of a vintage Prima vine from my stash. I printed my photo 3 times and layered them for a more dramatic effect. Isn't the black mesh from the Kit a perfect backdrop?!

Here are a few close-ups:

For my next project, I had some fun with my Lindy's Stamp Gang inks and let the colors drip as they wanted. So yummy and fun! After getting a general idea of how I wanted my page to look, I took to my favorite way to distress my papers .. FIRE! First, I must say that I only do this when the hubby is home,  just to be on the safe side! One can never be too careful!!! I stand over the kitchen sink and use the flame of a candle on the edges and let it burn until I'm happy with the amount it has burned away. Then I blow the fire out. These papers wanted to smolder a bit longer than most, so I left my project on the counter for awhile after dampening the burned edges a tiny bit. You can see that I've used a few different punches (4) and once again some molding paste and my Tile Textures stencil. I'm counting 8 paper layers, how about you?

I also had fun with my chipboard flourish that I treated with Gesso, inks and a Prima Firefly stamp. I finished it off with Ranger's Clear Rock Candy Crackle paint. While arranging my flowers, I decided to add in a few wisps of sewing thread that was tangled up in my mending basket and used it there as well as on my Dusty Attic title chippy. (The title chippy and ecru lace are from my stash.) I finished up with wood buttons from the Kit as well as the  Prima crystals which cut up and used in various place.

Last but not least is a "softer" page that I really, really love. It is so pretty IRL. The photo is a night time view of Santa Fe that had great colors but in the long run I opted to convert it to black and white for a "frosty" look.  I've done a few layers here as well and did a wet distressing technique with them.  On the last layer, I've used some Lindy's Stamp Gang in Autumn Maple Crimson, then topped that with some molding paste and a Prima Donna Downey Poppies and Peonies stencil. While experimenting with my ribbon, I came up with this squiggly effect that reminded me of the mountains, so I decided it was a keeper and then added my pearls in fashion and adorned them both with my large blooms.  The title chippy is a Blue Fern product that I inked and stained so many shades of brown that I lost track! =) It sure does shine though! I wanted that wintry look to my page, so the Dress it Up flats were perfect to for adding more shimmer. I tucked in the small doily from the Kit as well as some cheesecloth from my stash. My Maya Road butterflies were left untreated except for some Rub and Buff.

Pueblo Rose tutorial for Scrap That! Kit Club

Sandi here today to share with you how I made the single layer flower for my "Santa Fe Sunset" layout. This was really the first time I recall creating a paper flower that I based on an actual flower, other than the normal roses or daisies. Usually they are just "flowers." I've decided to call these the "Pueblo Rose."

It's based on this Scarlet Globe Mallow that grows in low rainfall, inter mountainous regions such as New Mexico.

This was the paper and supplies I used, as well as some of my Lindy's Stamp Gang mists as noted below.

To create this flower, you will want to use a 5 petal die such as this Spellbinders Donna Salazar Rose Creations die. Once you've die cut your petals, you will want to snip the edges with any type of ragged edge punch that you have in your arsenal. I used a Creative Memories star burst punch. This gives the flower a more natural appearance. My yellow flower center was simply cut by hand.  The edges were then inked (Quick Quotes PowderPuff Bloody Mary) on both of these. Next bend your flower edges downward (or upward) depending on the look you like and where the flowers will be placed.

Using any type of round edged utensil, you will want to place your flower in the palm of your hand and press down to  make the flower cup upward.  You can also accomplish this with a mouse pad or foam pad but I like using my palm, thus the lack of a photo. I then pierced the center of the flower to make room for my stamens and lastly painted the midpoint of the center with some Olive Green Silks Acrylic Glaze prior to inserting and gluing the stamens on the underneath side.

Because I wanted my stamens to go straight up. I set my flowers on the edge of an old plastic container until the glue was completely dry.

While those were drying, I cut some green leaves using my Tattered Pine Cone die.

Once the glue was dry and the stamens firmly in position, I placed them through the holes of the black mesh that came in the June kit. It was a bit curled and made the perfect work surface for working on my finishing touches.  Next I began painting on my LSG mists until I achieved the color I wanted. I was going for a bit of a streaked look. My primary colors were Tiger Lily Orange and Rhododendron Red Rose.

Here is a close-up of the flowers and you can see those ragged edges a bit better here. I really like that look!

Another close-up.

The final product was nestled around the corner of my photo over a vintage Prima vine that I used as a filler. I tucked my greenery in a few random places and called it done!

Hopefully, you can give these a try someday soon!
